PEG Bandwidth chooses systems from Ekinops and Extreme Networks for LTE mobile backhaul

Ekinops and Extreme Networks say they have partnered to provide optical transport gear and 10-Gigabit Ethernet mobile backhaul switches to PEG Bandwidth for the carriers’ network upgrade.

PEG Bandwidth, a national provider of 4G mobile backhaul infrastructure services for carriers, offers cell site backhaul services, metro transport services, and long-haul transport services to other carriers, including Tier 1 carrier customers. Through partnerships with fiber providers, cable companies, CLECs, and others, PEG says it can aggregate backhaul traffic across multiple networks, covering a larger percentage of an individual market, and provide a seamless, end-to-end offering to its wireless carrier customers. The company recently has begun to extend and upgrade its footprint .

The new roll out will include the Ekinops 360 optical transport platform, which offers DWDM and CWDM in a single system. Ekinops also will supply the Extreme Networks Summit X670 10GbE stackable switches and E4G 200 Mobile Backhaul routers. The platforms will combine to provide PEG with cost-effective ultra-low-latency Ethernet switching and transport.

"We selected the Ekinops solution for its ability to meet a broad range of our backhaul and transport needs," said Christopher Pickard, PEG Bandwidth chief technology officer and vice president of network operations. "It was the most cost-effective and scalable choice to support our rapid network growth."
