TELE Greenland, Eastlink, Hibernia Atlantic consider Icelandic low-latency route
TELE Greenland, Eastlink, and Hibernia Atlantic have revealed their plans for a low latency network connection between New York City and Landeyajasandur, Iceland. The proposed route would combine TELE Greenland’s Greenland Connect cable, network facilities owned and operated in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia by Eastlink; and Hibernia Atlantic links from Halifax to New York. The result could remove up to 1100 km from the existing path between the two points, which would significantly lower latency, the three operators say.

Fiber-optic network services provider Sidera Networks says it can now offer low-latency connections via its Xtreme Ultra-Low Latency Network from the New York Metro market to Toronto and London. The new low-latency routes offer diversity from Sidera’s existing routes to Toronto and London.

Tata Communications anchor tenant on Seabras-1 U.S.-Brazil cable system
Tata Communications (NYSE: TCL) and Seaborn Networks have announced that Tata will be an anchor tenant on Seaborn’s planned submarine cable between the United States and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The undersea cable system, Seabras-1, will enable Tata Communications to provide fully integrated network services from Brazil to its networks in the US, Europe, Africa, Asia, and India.

JDSU: UBS Ups to Purchase on Second-Half Component Rebound
Shares of fiber optic component maker JDS Uniphase (JDSU) are up 11 cents, or 1%, at $10.92, after UBS Securities’s Nikos Theodosopoulos raised his rating on the shares to Buy from Neutral, while maintaining his $14.50 price target, writing that a recent calcite in the stock has made valuation “attractive,” and that he expects a ramp-up in telco spending in the latter half of this year.
