ZTE wins GPON equipment order from China Mobile

ZTE Corp. (H: 0763.HK / A: 000063.SZ) says it has won orders from China Mobile for GPON equipment in the operator’s annual tender.

ZTE says it was one of only three successful vendors in China Mobile’s tender after a stringent selection process. The other winning bidders were Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (see "China Mobile awards Alcatel-Lucent $1 billion contract") and FiberHome.

China Mobile’s tender for more than 614,000 optical network units (ONUs) and over 3000 optical line terminals (OLTs) was test of each vendor’s product quality and capabilities in research and development, product customization, delivery, and technical support, ZTE asserts.

“ZTE is committed to achieving win-win with our customers through dedicated R&D efforts and high-quality customer services,” said Bei Jinsong, director of optical access products at ZTE. “Our efforts have resulted in industry-leading product performance and increasing market acceptance for ZTE’s GPON equipment.”

ZTE points out that, according to the latest report on the global fixed network market by Ovum, ZTE’s GPON equipment shipments in the fourth quarter rose 27% sequentially – the fastest growth rate among major vendors – thanks to increased demand in the Americas, Europe and China.
