Transtelco dips feet into the cloud market with CloudBand product of Alcatel-Lucent

Transtelco, a competitive provider targeting the U.S. to Mexico border, is evaluating a cloud services strategy by conducting a trial of Alcatel-Lucent's (NYSE: ALU) CloudBand solution.

During the trial, Transtelco will use the Franco-American vendor's CloudBand system, which includes a management system and a series of hardware and software platforms to host various cloud services.

The service provider will connect customers to its cloud services out of its El Paso data center.

Neither company is a stranger to one another as Transtelco worked with Alcatel-Lucent to construct a fiber network in central and south Texas to connect its wholesale and enterprise customers to its core network backbone.

Although the cloud service is only in trial mode, the service, combined with its newly built fiber network in key Texas cities, could make it even more attractive for existing and new customers that want cloud services that reach from Texas and into Mexico when it's eventually launched.
