Gigaphoton Wholly Owned Taiwan Subsidiary Starts Business Operation

Gigaphoton Inc., a major lithography light source manufacturer, announces that its wholly owned subsidiary Gigaphoton Taiwan Inc. started business operation on July 1. Through Gigaphoton Taiwan Inc., the company will aggressively promote new business opportunities to find potential customers in Taiwan by teaming up with lithography system manufacturers as well as further reinforce its local technical support system for existing Taiwanese customers of Gigaphoton DUV lasers for semiconductor lithography systems.

Gigaphoton has operated its excimer laser business through USHIO Taiwan Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of USHIO Inc., as its sales representative. However, when Gigaphoton became a wholly owned subsidiary of Komatsu, following Komatsu's purchase of the 50% of Gigaphoton shares owned by USHIO Inc. in May 2011, Gigaphoton then started taking over its business in Taiwan from USHIO Inc. Continuing this process, Gigaphoton founded a wholly owned Taiwanese subsidiary last October and proceeded with business transfer. Completion of the business transfer enabled Gigaphoton Taiwan Inc. to start business operation on July 1, 2012.

Taiwan is one of the most important regions in the global semiconductor industry. Gigaphoton Taiwan Inc. will develop best-in-class customer support activities, fully backed up by the headquarters of its parent company, Gigaphoton Inc. In addition, the company believes that Gigaphoton Taiwan will play a very important role in establishing firm relationships with Taiwanese semiconductor device manufacturers, thus accelerating its development of the EUV as the next-generation lithography light source.

The start of business operations by Gigaphoton Taiwan is significant for the global business strategy of the Gigaphoton Group. Following the start of its wholly owned Korean subsidiary in May, the launch of Gigaphoton Taiwan completes the formation of a network of Gigaphoton wholly owned subsidiaries in all the world's major semiconductor manufacturing bases, including the US and Europe. This will allow the Gigaphoton Group to further reinforce its global support system, thus ensuring a great advancement of its global business strategy.
