Cables Unlimited provides remote radio head hybrid cabling

Cables Unlimited, a division of RF Industries (NASDAQ RFIL), says its OptiFlex hybrid cabling products offer a variety of benefits for wireless carriers with 4G, WiMAX, LTE, and other upgrade plans that include remote radio head (RHH) topologies. The custom, application-specific cables offer optimal low-loss performance with less cost than standard tower configurations, the company asserts.

Use of the OptiFlex cables in RRH fashion saves time and money in several ways, Cables Unlimited says. These include:

    Fewer tower runs
Deployment lengths up to 550 feet with <10% voltage drop (based on radio power up to 950 W)
    Reduced or eliminated tower hardware
    Elimination of grounding cables
Shipping and deployment cost savings because of lower weight
    More efficient site installations.

The cables are pre-terminated with the appropriate breakouts and are weatherized, which makes them “plug and play” with standard tools and basic fiber and power testers, the company adds.

All OptiFlex hybrid cables are produced to customer specifications and combine coax, multiple fiber, Ethernet, and power cables bundled within a UV, heat, and moisture resistant PVC outer jacket. The cables are engineered to ensure optimal performance in environments up to 75 degrees C wet or dry.

All assemblies are US manufactured—pre-terminated by Corning Gold certified technicians in the company’s New York production facility using Corning fiber components and domestic cables, fillers, shielding, and jackets.
