Miranda Announces LUMO High-Density Fiber Converter Series
Miranda Technologies Inc. (TSX:MT), a worldwide provider of infrastructure, playout and monitoring systems for the television broadcast, cable, satellite and IPTV industry, today announced the NAB 2012 launch of LUMO, the company's new high-density fiber converter series. LUMO packs 36 I/Os into a 1RU frame, making it the highest density electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical converter available in the market.
"As facilities ready themselves to carry 3Gbps signals across their infrastructures, fiber has become the cable of choice for many," says Jean-Marc d'Anjou, Miranda's vice president, Infrastructure. "Fiber cables are much more cost effective than coax, they are lighter, and take up much less space. Additionally, many system integrators now have the experience and training for installing fiber, so the cost of installation has come down considerably. Most important, though, is quality. Fiber offers the best signal integrity for high-bandwidth 3Gbps signals, and at much longer cable distances. It's also impermeable to noise or other electromagnetic interferences."
LUMO provides the best density currently on the market, converting 36 signals in a 1RU frame. These standalone devices also boast a very low impact block when compared with other standalone converters - the modular design enables each converter to be serviced while the unit remains in operation. The unit also includes dual redundant power supplies and frame controller with dual redundant IP-connections that can be used for comprehensive system monitoring and frame health alarming.
LUMO uses the same SMPTE-compliant fiber SFP modules that are found on all 3Gbps products in the Miranda portfolio. Available in regular 1310nm and CWDM wavelengths, when married with our optical CWDM mux/demux, 2 fiber cables can now carry 36 3Gbps signals.
LUMO also offers a unique cable management approach to address cable dressing concerns. Fiber connectivity is provided on one side of the unit while coax is on the other, providing for easy separation of the heavier copper cable from the lighter fiber.
Miranda's comprehensive line of fiber products meets all broadcast installation requirements. Fiber SFPs are directly available on routers, modular processors, modular distribution amplifiers, picoLinks, Kaleido-Solo, and GigE-over-fiber products. Optical splitters and optical mux/demux round out the fiber line.
