iBasis & Reliance Communications to Build First IPX Connection in India
iBasis, a KPN company, today announced that leading Indian service provider Reliance Communications will connect to iBasis' growing IP eXchange (IPX) network. IPX offers a next-generation alternative to the public Internet. It provides the flexibility and efficiency of IP with the security and reliable quality associated with traditional TDM networks. This is particularly significant for Reliance and other mobile network operators as they transition to IP to improve quality, capture efficiencies and support new services, such as voice over LTE, IP videoconferencing, and HD voice.
"We have always believed in taking bold steps to offer innovative and first-of-its-kind services to our customers, and our partnership with iBasis to leverage their extensive IP expertise and IPX network is yet another step in that direction," said Mr. Punit Garg, President, Reliance Communications. "With the forthcoming advent of LTE and other innovations in the country, we are confident that IPX will be an important component that will enable us to support and deliver the next generation of high quality voice and exciting new data services and provide a unique experience to our subscribers."
Leveraging the company's more than 15 years of experience in IP innovation, the iBasis IPX is a secure, managed IP interconnection service based on GSMA specifications. It provides a reliable network for the company's voice and mobile data services and a robust, interoperable platform for innovative IP-based services in the future.
"Guaranteed high quality VoIP is the most immediate and compelling business case for the IPX today," said Willem Offerhaus, iBasis CEO. "IPX is also essential for LTE Roaming and will accelerate the development and growth of exciting new services such as HD Voice and IP videoconferencing. The iBasis IPX provides the security, scalability and guaranteed quality necessary to be a robust innovation platform for a new generation of services."
