Inphi to acquire Cortina Systems' optical transport semiconductor business

Inphi Corp. (NYSE: IPHI), a provider of high-speed, mixed signal semiconductors, and Cortina Systems, Inc., a communications semiconductor vendor, say they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Inphi will acquire Cortina's high-speed interconnect and optical transport product lines for $52.5 million in cash and $73.5 million in stock.

Orange to sign check for Sea-Me-We 5 submarine cable system

Orange says it will co-finance Sea-Me-We 5 (South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 5), a new submarine cable that will link France and Singapore. Plans call for Sea-Me-We 5 to connect Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Italy, and France.

NORDUnet upgrades Nordic research and education network via DANTE program with Ciena

The operators of the Nordic research and education network NORDUnet have selected the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform from Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) for a upgrade that will see 100G Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching added to the fiber-optic network.
